SYMPTOMS
Abdominal pain and cramping
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhoea
Fever
Possible dehydration - dark urine, no urine, sunken eyes, sunken fontanelle in babies, dry lips and mouth, flaky dry skin, tiredness, drowsiness

TREATMENT
Rest
Fluids - Water, oral rehydration solutions from the chemist, dilute orange, ice pops
Hygiene - Hands washing and good food hygiene

DOCTOR
If baby under 6 months
Showing signs of dehydration
Blood in vomit or stools
Symptoms worsening or not improving after a few days

COMPLICATIONS
Some may develop lactose intolerance after an episode of gastroenteritis
Symptoms - Diarrhoea, abdominal bloating, pain after eating dairy
Treatment - Stop giving dairy for a few days while intestine heals and try re-introducing after the few days
